Sarah’s passion for photography began at a young age, as she observed her father photographing wildlife during family trips into the Southern African bush. She pursued this first love by completing a bachelor of journalism degree at Rhodes University, specialising in photography, after which she worked as a freelancer in Cape Town and South-East Asia. Since joining the company seven years ago, Sarah has grown with the HSM family. Once very much a landscape and natural-light photographer, she has broadened her skills and interests to include studio portraiture and fashion and product shoots, but maintains her love of the outdoors, hiking and travel photography.
Gareth van Nelson
Born and raised in Cape Town, Gareth went to Pinelands High School, after which he spent two years in the casting industry. Leaving that behind, he decided to pursue his love of still photography at the Ruth Prowse School of Art. After graduating, Gareth went on to assist many local and international photographers, before joining the HSM team in 2011. His passion lies primarily in portraiture and landscape photography, but he is now broadening his skills with fashion and sport photography. You’ll also find him fishing or playing sport in his free time.
Andreas grew up in the small North West town of Potchefstroom. After matriculating, his thirst for travel and his curiosity about new places saw him heading for Europe and the UK, at which time his love for photography was also ignited. Realising this was the career for him, he returned to South Africa to study photography at the National College of Photography in Pretoria. After completing his studies, Andreas worked as a freelance photographer in the Gauteng area, building both his knowledge and reputation in most of the major photographic fields, but with a particular focus on product and commercial photography. After moving to Cape Town at the end of 2011, Andreas joined the HSMimages team in January 2012, where he hopes to continue improving his skills in fashion, sport and decor photography.
Originally from PE, Kendall-Leigh attended Rhodes University after school, where she completed a fine arts degree, specialising in photography. It was there, while gaining experience in dark-room processing, that she developed her keen eye for the creative side of photography and conceptual art. She joined the HSMimages team in 2011 as an assistant photographer, and has experience in digital photography, with skills in Bridge and Photoshop. While working with the HSM team, she has acquired experience in many photographic genres, but is most passionate about landscapes. When she’s not behind the lens, Kendall-Leigh loves to read, write and paint.
Having grown up as a ‘skateboarding Capetonian’, David became interested in photography, videography and music production as a teenager. After completing a diploma in audio engineering and a degree in motion picture, David found himself taking up residence in the Kruger National Park, filming wildlife for local and international productions. There, he met a local producer, with whom he subsequently went abroad to film and edit two 13-part series for a local television station. Having returned to Cape Town, David now works with the HSMimages team, learning more about visual and audio mediums along the way. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities, and is a keen mountain biker and hiker.
