Willie le Roux is a reason to celebrate, says SA Rugby

21 November 2013 in Sport

The new issue of SA Rugby looks at how Willie le Roux has sparked the Bok backline this year. Le Roux was the Boks’ most exciting back in the Rugby Championship, scoring three tries and giving the team a much-needed attacking edge.

When SA Rugby magazine last featured Le Roux, he had just played against Italy, Scotland and Samoa in the June quadrangular series. While he had done well in the first three Tests of his career, he admitted the true test of his ability at this level would come in the Rugby Championship against the world’s best.

Le Roux would go on to pass that test with flying colours while playing at fullback against Argentina and on the right wing against the All Blacks and Wallabies. He came into his own in Brisbane, when the Boks claimed a bonus-point win, and at Ellis Park when they scored four tries again. In the December issue of SA Rugby magazine, senior sports writer Ryan Vrede looks at what Le Roux has achieved this season, his mental strength, and in which position he could settle with the Boks.

The other player on our cover this month is Schalk Burger, who recently returned to the game after an 18-month battle with injury and illness. Read about this and other news, including Pieter-Steph du Toit’s Springbok prospects and Jake White’s return from Australia, in the December issue of SA Rugby, out now.
