Rashid Lombard is awarded the Order of Ikhamanga: Silver

17 April 2014 in General

HSM would like to congratulate Rashid Lombard, founder and CEO of espAfrika, for being awarded the Order of Ikhamanga: Silver by State President Jacob Zuma. This award is presented to South Africans who have excelled in the areas of arts, culture, literature, music, journalism and sports.

Rashid is credited for the instrumental role he's played in making the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) a wildly popular success. HSM produces Who's Who the official magazine for this event, and has done so for the past six years. ‘We are proud to be associated with the calibre of event the CTIJF is,’ says HSM CEO Kevin Ferguson. ‘It's a standard that could only be set by the kind of talented, inspiring person that Rashid is.’

Rashid’s involvement in the arts precedes the CTIJF however.  As a political photojournalist and cultural activist in the anti-apartheid movement in the '70s and '80s, Rashid is rooted in the growth of the arts and culture scene in the Cape and further afield. This involvement has been recognised through a string of awards, including the prestigious Order of the Disa Award in 2004, which acknowledged his noteworthy contribution to arts and culture in the Western Cape.

‘We look forward to continuing our journey with Rashid and espAfrika and wish him even more future success,’ says Kevin.
