A smashing new design make-over for SA Cricket

17 January 2014 in Sport

SA Cricket has joined Sascoc's Road to Rio as one of the HSM sports titles to get a smashing design makeover. The design team lead by sports art director Stuart Apsey has outdone itself once again with a slick design ethos that combines a great look and feel with clear content management.

'SA Cricket magazine is delivering a new look for the new year,' says managing editor Dan Gillespie. 'We've revamped the design in order to give readers more insight into their favourite players, while still providing them with the great reads they've come to expect from the magazine. Better images, more interesting use of statistics and more in-depth analysis wrapped up in a dynamic new package means a better overall product and one we're proud to be producing five times a year.'

Says Stuart: ‘Everything is new. It's a complete overhaul from design approach to fonts and graphics. We wanted to remove it from the SA Rugby format, which is it’s brother publication, and give it its own identity. Top of priority was to tailor it for our SA Cricket readership.’ For example, Stuart says that since statistics are so vital to the cricket reader they’ve elaborated the stats in forms of info graphics to take the reader straight into the information. ‘In the past we had more unique design concepts per article but we’ve now standardised the look throughout, only bringing in various colour to separate the articles.’
